Advanced Robotics Club (ages 6-12)
New World learning Academy is happy to announce the first ever First Lego League (FLL) K-5th grade competitive team for the First Lego League. FLL is a robotics program for students ages 6 – 12. Robotics and programming are only part of the Challenge. Team members will use research and presentation skills as well as their teamwork skills. Robotics goes hand in hand with New World Learning STEM Initiative and use of the Engineering Design Process.
FLL will be an after school activity and there will be regularly scheduled meetings. Along with this we will offer Robotics Programing during the summer camp, are competing teams will meet after the regular day this is where we will go more in-depth with robotics.
About First Lego League – A FLL competition centers around two main parts:
(A) The Robot Game (1/4 of the points)
(B) The Project (3/4 of the points)
Robot Game – During the robot game students program an autonomous robot (autonomous in this case means press the start button and back away) to perform specific tasks on a game board.
For the Project portion of the competition, judges look for a solution to a problem. There are 3 areas that teams will be judged during the project.
- Project – Identify a problem and present a solution to the problem.
- Presentation – The team displays an original way to present information learned during research.
- Team Work – A team is given a problem to solve (think Pictionary), how do they solve the problem as a group.
